LEVEL OF SKATEBOARDING
APPLICATION NOW OPEN. EMAIL DAN@CLOCKWISEMEDIA.COM
Teams consist of 4 members or less. The camera man and editor must be part of the 4 man team. Filming and editing responsibility can be shared amongst the team. At least 1 of the team members must be able to pick up the team starter pack from fiftyfifty skate shop between 4pm and 6pm on Thursday 3rd September. If this proves impossible please contact email@example.com and he will arrange delivery of the starter pack. All team members should ideally be present at the films premiere on Sunday 6th September where films will be judged and a winner announced. All team members must be 15 years old or above.
The Team Starter Packs.
1 or more team members must pick up the starter pack from fiftyfifty between 4pm and 6pm on Thursday 3rd September. This is when the competition officially starts. The starter pack will include the following.
Rider tags. These must be worn by all riders in all shots. This is to prove that the footage was shot in the allocated time.
Judging criteria breakdown. This will be a document explaining how films will be judged and outline some different ways to pick up bonus points. (See judging criteria)
DIY stickers. There will be an additional prize for best Instagram photo and best placed sticker. These have no relevance to the main competition and are just a bit of fun.
Teams have 3 days to film and edit their film. From 4pm on Thursday 3rd until 4pm on Sunday 6th. Teams must pick up their starter pack from fiftyfifty skate shop between 4 and 6 pm on the 3rd and deliver the finished film back to fiftyfifty between 3pm and 4pm on Sunday 6th. The premier will then be held at the Cube cinema at 6pm.Teams handing in the film late will be penalised. The premier will start at 6pm where all films will be watched and judged. From this the top 5 films will be taken through to the final where they will be watched and judged again. The premier will finish by 10pm where a 1st, 2nd and 3rd prizes will be awarded.
Each film must be no more than 2mins long. The films must consist only of footage shot in the allocated 3 day time schedule of the competition. Skater tags must be worn by all skaters within the film. The film must consist of music that the team has agreed license off. If the teams are struggling with music DIY Bristol can suggest some track options. The films must not include any law breaking or unruly activity. All skaters are liable for their own health and safety throughout the competition.
Teams will judge each other’s films at the premier night on the 6th September at the Cube Cinema. There will also be guest judges that judge all films. The films will be judged on the following.
Concept and Narrative.
Teams are encouraged to think outside the box when it comes to concept. A good film should mix great skating with a great concept. This is a good opportunity to do something a bit different.
Level and technicality of skateboarding.
This is a skateboard competition so teams will be judged on how hard they push themselves and calibre of skate trick’s within the edit.
Style and production.
This includes style of the skating and style of the filming/editing. We want to see films with a consistent and well thought out ascetic. Not just a load of clips dumped on a timeline. High production values will help score high points.
Teams are encouraged to get creative with their DIY skills as well as their skating and filming skills. This does not mean to say you should start mixing cement or building a vert wall. However teams will be awarded points for looking at creative ways of improving spots. This could include fixing a spot or adding a DIY element that improves the spot. They could also make a mobile DIY spot that they take to different locations. DIY isn’t a must in the competition but it is encouraged.
There will bet a set list of bonus points that teams can choose to do. This list will be included in your starter pack, which you will receive when the competition starts.
